Hey guys,
Am about to go through a Safety Cert on a VR V8 Ute.
Like a lot of other VR and VS utes, it has a considerable fuel smell in the cabin. I am going through the motions of fixing it - checking injectors, oxygen sensors, tank overflow lines, pressure test tank etc.
My question is: Will the fuel smell affect roadworthy / safety cert. The ute has no immediate signs of fuel leaks etc, just the smell.
I will obviously fix it in the long run but am just trying to get it through safety cert in the meantime.
Cheers guys
Make sure you leave an empty lawn mower fuel can in the cabin or in the tray - that will explain the smell. Good Luck.

Check the connections to your charcoal canister if it's there. If it's not, that's the cause of your smell.
Its usually perished and/or broken breather and vapour hoses that run from the fuel tank to the charcoal cannister that cause the strong fuel smell. Its not hard or expensive to replace them.
Some fantastic ideas thanks guys!! Will stock up on air freshener and fill up the jerry can!!
The vapour hose that runs from the tank to the charcoal cannister? Is that the hose at the very top of the fuel tank? If so, mine is vented to the atmosphere.
Whereabouts is this charcoal canister located? Cheers guys.
