Boot Latch Problems - HELP!!

Hey guys,
i just got a new boot lid for my vr commo. I bolted it all back on the way the old one was, but im having trouble with the boot latch. its lined up perfectly with the steel hook on the bottom of the boot, and locks when i force the latch up to the lock position with my finger.

BUT for some reason, when i shut the boot lid down onto the steel hook, the latch wraps around the hook, but doesnt lock. I've got no idea, any suggestions on what to do about it would be great!
