Wink spare hole in engine for coolant temp switch

the engine fan output fom my ecu is a bit dicky so I have wired the cooling fan to a switch in the dash. which works great but I have to remember to turn it on once the engine is up to temp.
Does anyone know where I could fit another temp switch into the water jacket of the engine or somewhere so I could have it switch the fan automatically. It is an ecotec v6.
I only use it for driving to work and have just put a new tranny, radiator and oil cooler on the thing, so I am trying not to spend any more money than I have to.
    Thanks for any help

ebay would be your cheapest option, but a wreckers would def have one, but i always get ripped off with them. Ring you nearest holden dealer for a genuine price, then shop second hand and see what the dif is.. They only screw in and screw out, so not too hard to change.

So, are you saying the PCM is the source of the problem? i.e the internal relay is not switching power to the fan signal wire? This can occur, but is not all that common. Have you tried a new coolant temp sensor (the bigger one located under the thermostat housing)? If it is sending an incorrect temp reading to the PCM (lower than what it really is) this will also cause it to not send power to the thermo's as the PCM will think it's not hot enough yet. A new coolant temp sensor from Holden should be approx $35 from memory so at this I wouldn't risk a 2nd hand one.

Really should of read op better b4 posting. Yeah if ur oputput is dickey, then its probably the temp sensor still which i was talking about above, but made no scence to you cause i was way off So try that, like above thier not expensive, thats why i wanted u to ring for genuine first.

If that dosnt work, then the other option i have see used in the past is, use the single wire dash sensor. Basically a ptc resistor and use the varible voltage off that wire to rig up 1 or 2 single shot ccts for high/low. Im pretty sure jaycar have premade kits for this.
