My New VR :)

Hey guys just wondering i bought my VR today its got quite a bit of things i have to do to get it right but all the basics are fine,

I just wanted to know how i can check if it has a power chip in it? because the guy who sold it to me said it has one and im just wondering where to look just to make sure.

Also its LPG, how much would i be looking at to put it back to petrol, seeying as even though it would be saving me money im not really fussed and the fuel gage kind of plays up having it on LPG as well as not getting as much Kms and power as with just petrol.

And lastly just wondering what site I can go on to find parts as it will probly need a new auto transmission box, a new odometer as it just recently stopped, and probly a new dashboard in general as the fuel gage and the cold/hot gage is fried.. other than that the car has been serviced, has 4 new tyres, runs really well and has no noticeable problems except in the inside of the car, payed $2,500 but got 1 years REGO and the roadworthy its a 1993 vr exec, few pics below (sorry its night and dark but better than nothing!)

haha cheers, nah isnt an x-cop car because i bought it off a mate who had it for 6 years then he bought it off some old woman who had it since it was brand new so there you go lol,
anyone know any cheap places to get the LPG taken out and completely removed, and also any places for after market and good looking tail lights? looking to get different lighting on it because theres so many commodores out there and i want mine to stand out :P also the odometer is fried and stuck at 235648 and wont move as well as the cold/hot temp gauge and the fuel gauge is a bit dodgy cause of the dual fuel system.

in regards to your questions

1, no such thing as a "power chip" . you can get memcals with edited tunes on it , only way to check would be to open the ecu and see if the memcal has a sticker on it saying someone has tuned it

2, no idea , probly like $500-600

3, Try ebay or wreckers (depends on where your from)

thanks for all your help everyone really appreciated and im not just here to post 1 topic about shit then leave il be active here now cause its my first car and i want and need to learn everything i can about it haha,
have you guys got any reccomedations in terms of what i should do to the car, eg. interior/exterior, cool mods, etc for a P plater?

hey man im in exactly the same boat as you
on my ps, first car, and hungry for knowledge (and skills?) lol
but gameplan for my vs is to lower it, catback exhaust, some mags, and maybe a bodykit nothing crazy oh and cover the interior with faux leather (thats a big maybe its cheap enough though)

yeah truee, i was thinking of getting this installed looks sweet :P YouTube - VT BLUE CLUSTER cause i need a new dashboard because my petrol gauge and coolant guage that tells the temperature is fkd.. mines already lowered haha so not too sure what to get apart from the exhaust mags and bodykit could i get that dash in a VR though? :P

any chance anyone could tell me what an ECU is? or where i can check for a power chip just to make sure if it has/doesnt have one so i know wether to buy one or not

ecu is like the brain of the car but i got no idea where or how to check try google? i imagine itd be pretty uniform across the line and with the dash do you mean just a new one? try the wreckers or something

yeah i know its the brain lol just dont know where it is :P and yeah a new dash but with like the lights my one is the original VR one and doesnt have anything digital whereas that one has like 3 blue digital bits at the bottom of the dash

The ECU is on the passengers side , under the kick pannel thats on the side around where your left foot would be

I can recommend buying another motor, stripping it down and rebuilding for when your off your P's so you have one mean ass V6 or V8 which can be turbo or supercharged.

any reccomendations on where to get a good commodore low kms and newer models? dads going to take that commodore and im going to take out a loan and buy a newer one since it has too many problems

If your going to be getting a loan then you have your options wide open.
I personally love the VR's and would keep mine regardless of what new car i got, but if i had the option, id possibly be going for a VX/VY Clubsport, or considering your p's, Maybe a VX S Pac, or if your happy to spend a little more, a VE SV6?
Something that if you don't have the money to do up, at least looks shit hot as it is, and takes easy to modifications and enhancements when you do get a bit more money behind you.

On a personal note, be careful of borrowing money.
As soon as i turned 18 i went and got a bunch of loans, credit cards ect. It was great until the money was gone and i am still repaying that mistake today Id definitely suggest buying a car with your own money, or at least paying a bulk of the cost and loaning the rest.

yeah again i was the same thinking of gettiing a loan for a car but then my vs popped up and grabbed it. and gad i didnt because now ive got no debt and can save for when im off my p's to get something v8 or charged up

yeah fair enough, i dont want to take out a loan for more than 10,000 so do you guys have any ideas in terms of what i should get for that sort of money? basically im looking for something under 150,000kms and is P plate legal

i havent looked at commodores but when i was looking at cars i saw a trend in BA falcons going for around 7-10 grand with under 100ks and rego all p plate legal so i assume the same for commodores gett like a vy or something?

NOOOOO FALCONS!!!
Now that thats sorted, suss out the VT's, VX's and VY's. There's a lot you can get for $10,000.
Maybe even go a VT-S for around 5/6 grand and spend the rest on mods, lowering, tinting ect.
