Look in the service records if you have them, prob best to continue using the same oil (manufacturer) its had throughout its life. failing that, It would be in the car manual,
Failing that, Vr has the same motor as a vn and i use valvoline xld premium 20W-50.

I've been using Magnatec for years and no problem with it. It actually made my VN's lifter noise a little quieter.
Why don't you go tot he various oil company web sites they have a link that allows you to drill down to find theeir recommended lubricants.

In my V6 I use penrite HPR15 which is a semi synthetic 15W-60 oil.It stays a bit thicker when hot than the normal recommended 20W-50 oil,and its also a bit thinner at cold temps for quicker oil pressure build up from cold start. 90% of engine wear occurs at cold startup,so having the pressure come up quick when cold is a big benefit to engine life.Id like to be using a full synthetic oil like mobil 1,but at $80 a bottle at the local auto shops, its a bit expensive.I change my oil and filter every 5000 k's.My car gets driven pretty hard though.

    Holy crap.
Don't go spending $70 on oil for your V6 VR.

Mineral 20/50 in a high KM v6 will be fine.
They're shopping trolley motors, not F1 spec racers.
