Ok so I noticed when I went up the shops that my vs was bubbling when I came home and was leaking out of the cap.
Long story short, I replaced the cap, temp sender, radiator, water pump, thermo, and flushed out the system and still overheats. I looked at other posts to see if any one had anything similar but all seem to have been fixed after they replaced one or more parts. Any help would be appreciated, cheers
if the water is bubbling i would say its done a head gasket, is the coolant / water a brown colour?
Cheers Josh
No its seems clean but cant tell after I just flushed andrefilled it but I guess i'll keep an eye on it for that, took it for drive after I put the radiator in this arvo and it went to hot and then when the fan kicked in it went to 3/5ths but it wont go under that.
was the radiator brand new? Maybe try a new sender?
Cheers Josh
Yeh brand new out of the box radiator! and i've put in a new sender...do u mean sensor?
was it using coolant before u changed anything?.. did you flush the block?
Cheers Josh
Nah didnt have to keep topping it up or anything and I flushed the block till clean water came out...blocked water jacket?
my old vr used to sit at the 1st line above cold, our VS sits at the 2nd - 3rd line. Did you bleed the system when you put the new coolant in?
Cheers Josh
Yep, through the brass screw on the thermo housing, my vs ute sits on 1/5th all day everyday but my mrs vs used to sit about halfway till it started to crap itself...
it could be a faulty gauge? But everything else has been replaced
Cheers Josh
sounds logical enough...auto elec would do that wont they?
Try and find a workshop with a laser thermometer. This is a weird one..
Cheers Josh
Will do, cheers for ya help mate
Found the problem this morning, noticed the coolant would drop to a certain level overnight so I put a rubber mat underneath and kept topping it up for about 20 minutes and there it is on the left hand side and above the water pump but back a little further was the smallest leak of coolantwould this be cracked head or gasket???
if the engine is dirty give it a REALLY good clean around where the leak is from, it could be a simple gasket.
Cheers Josh
Yeh gave it a full clean before I put the water pump on and couldnt believe how clean it came up, hoping its just a gasket...think I might have to start taking it apart
Now I cant find the leak and it seems all tight and double checked... Took it for a drive and only started to over heat when I was close to home... Fml
I can't believe it but mine is doing the same thing. except no leaks. I too have replaced the entire cooling system with brand new parts, bled the air out and by now have replaced the coolant about 5 times over with all the parts replaced. It was originally pressure tested when all this first started and showed nothing wrong. I am so over it, i know havn't been able to use my car properly for 2 weeks.
If you figure it out can you let me know? I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread.
Yeh 2 easy, this car is killing me...then my utes starter motor seems to be going now aswell...does it ever end?!?! Lol
My vr was the same, replaced everything new, only thing was it never went through water and had no leaks, just once in a blue moon it will over heat. Anyway i took a punt and bought some stop leak for head gaskets ect when one day i noticed a fair amount of water coming out of the cat convertor when ideling for 5 mins or so in the driveway...and the car has never over heated since...So my guess was, it was the smallest of a head gasket problem, and it would only effect the motor sometimes....anyway it worked for me.
