I have a VS V8 auto 4L60e but the dipstick does not sit right in the tube, could someone compare theirs if I have the correct dipstick?
I have p/n 92052739 with the red trans lock top.
This may seen stupid, but the release lever must be up to allow it to go back in the hole.

yeah it is inserted correctly but I noticed when I had the pan off that there is a stop in the box at the bottom and from what I can gather the dipstick is bottoming out on it, I can force it down the last 10mm or so with little effort to lock it in place but after a drive it has popped back up.
I know there was a recall on the VS model, I think they originally had the push in type that all holdens have had for the last 40yrs or so, it has me wondering it it is the wrong stick, if so I will not be able to gauge the fluid level accurately.
Any help appreciated thanx.
Maybe your dipstick is the one designed for a deep pan 4L60E and someone has put a shallow pan 4L60E transmission into the car and forgot to swap dipsticks although this is only guessing. The V8 has the deep pan 4L60E trans as standard whilst the V6 has the shallow/normal pan 4L60E pan although the deep pan did come with some towing packs. Cannot checp my dipstick as daughter has car....someone else?????

Just to confirm, the stop the stick is bottoming out on is located next to the valve body, the dipstick is not bottoming on the pan.
