    rope isn't it?

and yeh $2000 is what they'll tell you.

the whooooollllleeeee motors gotta come out and its a gigantic pain in the arse to do. lol ... bad news for you mate.

if your not mechanically minded, find a quote of $1200-$1500 and grab it.
for that kind of money, consider just buying a replacement motor... your not far off it mate.

    sorry to hear it dude!

VR V6 have a one piece rear main seal = 'box out only. Figure on about 3-4 hours labour (it will take less, but that's about the book time) plus seal, maybe $3-400?

    THanks guys

Turns out even the Holden dealers don't know what's going on!! It ISN'T a rope seal its all rubber. We are talking about two or three drips overnight, but unfortunatly it's due for an inspection (just bought it). Will find out next week when all the other things are checked, I have had a quote for $500.00 so that's looking like the best option so far.

Yes for a v6 its a one piece rubber seal, not sure about a v8...maybe its rope. Drama is the seal has to installed a certain depth and has to square to crank so everything seals and of course gearbox and flywheel has to come of .

I think you have to careful when doing v6 one...have heard of horror stories of people doing it twice when first time job was one of those "she'll be right" and hope for the best and it wasnt.

Hey there. The v6(vr) has a rubber seal and is about $500-$800(engine in and gearbox out) and the v8(vr) has a rope and is upto $1000 if done with a "sneaky pete"engine in and $1200-$2000 with the engine out and crank removed.
