From memory the bt1 was just optioned with the 80l regardless of 6cyl or 8cyl.
Only bigger tanks were custom made as far as I was aware.

The early VN handbook says the long range tank is 85 litres, the standard tank is 63 litres and the wagon tank holds 68 litres..Ive noticed that in the later VN handbook the long range tank capacity was lowered to 80 litres from 85 for some reason..

Early VN was an 85lt, later VN was 80lt. VR V8 was 80lt as well, not 84lt.

All BT1's came with the standard 63 litre tank...the long range tank was an option, as were sump guards and the "cop chip"....nah, just kidding.

Any idea why? Could go some way to explain why VP V6's with P plates in the windscreen are so fast.

Rule of thumb from my towbar fitting days, all V8 sedans had the bigger tank, they required a different towbar to go around them. A V6 towbar never fitted a V8 because the tank was deeper.

And it isn't a "drop" tank.....

I don't mean to steal your thread dude but upon reading this i just have a small question, would i be able to fit one of these 80-85 litre tank to my V6 VR? I wouldn't mind getting a bigger tank and im sure i could find one to buy, but would a VN tank fit it and how tricky is the swap?

Probably cause it's not dead empty when you go to 'fill' up. You'd be surprised how much is left when reporting 'E' on the gauge. Also when you fill, are you letting the pump hit one click and stopping, or waiting a few seconds and continuing slowly?
And if you've physically drained all your fuel, and measure only 40 L to a brim full, then I've got nothing... lol
