Hi guys,
Iv read a few posts on how to remove and replace a new barrel, but still cannot find if holden or a locksmith can give me a replacement that will work with the old key or not.
Any help would b greatly appreiciated
The barrel will come with 1 or 2 new keys which simply screw onto your remote via the 2 screws on the fob - also some barrels can be dis-assembled and the tumblers refitted to suit you old key...they have instructions on how to do this and apparently it's not hard to do. I'd do a Google search or check at a spares shop. The other alternative is to get the new barrel and key, attach it to the old head and use this key to start the car and operate the central locking, and use the old key to manually open/lock the door and boot.
Good Luck.

ive replaced the ignition barrel in my VS before
i bought a new barrel from autopro which came with a new key
i would suggest you take the old barrel apart and take careful note of the order of the tumbler pins....they even have numbers on them
its really not a hard job
you just take apart both barrel and switch the tumblers....quite fiddly but not hard as such
give it a go....worse than can happen is you have to buy another new barrel....

The new genuine barrel doesn't come with a key, but as already said, it isn't hard to key the new barrel.
A hazard for new players is getting the brass pins to line up using new pins and an old key. Sometimes the key is a bit worn and the pin won't move all the way it needs to to turn in the barrel because a pin is sticking up a bit. I have done two barrels now and I have had to use a different number pin in one position to get it to align properly. It sounds complicated, but once you get a new barrel and look at the old one it is very simple to work out.
The pins are all numbered so as long as you keep them in the correct order, you can't go wrong.
