Hello all, I need to tap into your knowledge once again. I was on the way to work this morning about 2 hrs ago and my VS Clubby just died period, no warning, no symtoms, just died instantly. i tried restating it and the motor turns over with no unusal sounds or characteristics but refuses to start, doesnt even partially fire. i checked my fault codes it gives me only 12's. but i pulled out No.2 spark plug and put it into the lead and turned the motor over to check for arc and there was nothing, so im thinking maybe distributor? is distributor mechanical?? any suggestions or similar experiences you fellas can give me wont go overlooked.
Thanking you Simon
Did you earth the plug when you checked for spark?
The plug outer needs to be earthed for the plug to fire while out of the motor?
Just checking.
yeh i did, i even filed away a bit of surface on the ac compressor to get better contact. im also thinking coils could be the culprit.
I'll be back, gotta go tow the car home...
Is it your ignition module
Sounds ignition related 99% so prime suspects are dist cap and rotor, hall effect sensor in dist, coil or the prime suspect as Clint_G suggests is the ignition module. Good Luck.

wheres the best place to source an Ignition module? i just contacted coventreys and one of those will set me back $450 + GST....
Stuntmanmike: At least he didn't advise for me to check the head light fluid and bring it in to tune the radio...
There are 5 on Ebay right now all less than a third of Coventrys price. I wouldn't just go replacing bits....test them first.

Hmmm just pulled out old coil...it looks new, the cad plating is still shiny along with the little screws and all. Tested to see if was transmitting energy to distributor, there's no pulse. So correct me if im wrong but that now puts the spotlight on the Ignition module eh?

Can you hear the fuel pump priming ????
if u have a in car diagnosis computer plug it in, erase all history codes, then try it againt after erasing them, then the problem shud appear by code, find out wat the code is then go from there, dont buy anything until u kno for sure wat it is, otherwise u might replace parts that are still operating good, keep me updated wit wat the diagnosis says....
Hey hey fellas, She breathes once more!!!It was the Ignition module alright, plugged the new one in and she fired first shot. Ignition module cost me $205 and i think its a MOSFET. I have to say Kudos to all that helped, its great to know we're all not doomed to go straight to a holden mechanic when something goes wrong

ignition module strikes again,i had mine go a couple of months ago but was lucky that after it cooled down for about 10 minutes i could drive off for about 5 minutes then have it cut out again, made it a long drive home...
Got a similar issue here, engine turns over but refuses to kick, but we *do* get spark....
Is it possible to have a weak spark to the point where it is visible but the engine wont fire? It wont even kick on start-ya-bastard, and it *was* running fine so I refuse to believe all 8 cylinders suddenly did their rings......
Ignition module? Coil?
Thoughts?
Dirty plugs.........
What have you been working on in the car? This happens alot when people pull the dizzy out and put it in 180 degrees out.
naw, first thing we thought of
Have spark, can hear injectors clicking, wont kick on start-ya-bastard.....
In other words, looks like a complete loss of compression but I just cant believe all 8 would go at once......
We were screwing around with the sump off (clearing blocked oil pickup), is there anything down there that we mightve stuffed?
Yeh, we've changed the dizzy cover/leads, but after this problem cropped up. We were careful with the timing, I guess we could check it again but like I said we had this issue before changing it out.
Quite literally, we were running it in very short spurts (priming new oil pump after clearing the pickup) and then suddenly it wouldnt even cough.
Something has gone bang.
Anyone? Any more thoughts?
Have you checked fuel pressure?
