    Hey Mate.

Drain All the Coolant removing the bottom hose, Remove & Throw away the Thermostat, Flush the Block clean with the hose. Install new Thermostat & Gasket. Clamp Hoses Back.
Pour in 5 ltrs of 100% Coolant, Then fill the rest up with Distilled or Tap water your choice, Start the car with the Cap off, pour some more water in till it takes no more then replace the radiator cap, Then Run the car up to temp, turn the car heater to HOT, Then bleed the air out. Should solve it. Cost $50 and you know the thermostat and Coolant are new. Also has the water pump been changed ? Might pay to do that also & the heater tap as they get brittle & Break.

Mate Id suggest you buy yourself a workshop manual if you want to repair/service your own car.It shows everything you need to know, like how to remove the water pump etc, well worth it,you can learn heaps about your car from them..

These belts on the V6's are the easiest belt Ive ever had to remove or fit on any car.Just put a ring spanner on the tensioner pulley bolt, and turn the whole tensioner pulley downward with the spanner to loosen the belt tension, then whilst holding it there, slip the belt off the water pump pulley, just make sure you draw up a map of where the belt runs before you remove it,it can be hard to remember where it runs if youve never removed one before..it shows you in the workshop manual where it goes anyway..

    Changing water pump VN/VP/VR

That Should Help Mate. Different Motor but exactly the same process.
My Pump let go on the side of the Freeway, Shaft Let go. After i got a new Pump & Pump Pully cover as the old one went down the freeway took about 20 mins to replace.
Just Remove Belt. Remove Pump Bolts, Tap to break the seal. Clean off the old gasket. Get New Pump & Gasket. Put some Flexi-non hardening sealant on both sides of the gasket. If you use a hardening sealant it will crack and leak. Its in a white tube at super cheap With no.2 on it in a blue packet.
Then Just stick the new pump on, apply some sealant to the bolts also, Torque up pretty well, tighten side to side so its even.
Replace the heater tap also. they are like $20 and saves a real head ache. And any hoses if needed.

Have a look round the bottom of you timing cover, it could be leaking and running down the hose. I've had one corrode on me and start leaking where the water bores are.

    Just a thought.

Do you mean the 2 square-ish holes? If so yes, they're your water bores, where the water goes into and out of the water pump. That's where they can corrode.

It will leak. Not saying that's what it is, but I've had it happen to me.

That's possible too. Check all your bolts and the hose clamps.
