Need advise finishing VR conversion

I'm having trouble connecting my vr speedo up after it was converted to a manual, reverse lights and everything still work I'm just not sure if the speedo sensor is connected or if its the right one.
Please help if you have experience with this.
I think I need step by step help because I'm having trouble even with the forums

3 wires from manual gearbox vehicle speed sensor

1 to speedo/computer
1 to earth
1 to 12V positive

I've read threads on what to do with the wires I just don't know were to find them, do I need to jack my car up to find them or can I grab them from in my car reaching through the cap where the auto box was fitted?
