    Default Heater not working

    Hi Guys,

I put another heater/fan switch into my VS but the heater is not working, I am only getting cold air out and it only comes at the feet. Even I change from face to demist still only comes at the feet... I switch on the air con and the light comes on, no change in the revs/taco and the same temp air comes out. There is also a distictive hissing noise when the unit is turned off... not sure, can anyone help me on this?

    Thanks
    Daz

Sounds like your fan amplifier could be stuffed. The fan amplifier is like the resistor in the models without climate control, and is located in the same place. I had mine replaced last year, was about $140 for the part. as for the heat side im not sure...have you just brought the car?

Your heater and air con control panel is vacuum operated. There is about 5 vacuum hoses behind it and if any come off it makes a hissing sound. Neva heard of a fan amplifier but if the other bloke has changed 1 b4 he must know wot he's talking about. Also ur heater tap might b ###d. It's located under bonnet with heater hose going to and from it. I'm pretty sure they too have 1 of 2 vacuum hoses goin too it aswell. Very easy to fix heater tap. They cost about $40 to $50.

Thanks for that, I will look at the hoses... all new education for me

I found the resistor and pulled it out, seems to look ok, all the springs are attached and no signs of breakage there...

ok this may sound silly? check under the hood and see if the heater has been disconected b4 you got it....it may have the a buggered heater core and who sold the car to you closed off hoses in the engine bay to stop coolent leaking into the cab via the stuffed heater core,,,,,,i had a mate who brought a car with the sam prob as you state. althogh his fan worked on all speeds also so explians why you dont get cooler air when aircon is on as heeat and cool come go thru the heater core,so i got a feeling from what you say that you heater has been cut off from under the bonnet,,,if so you will have to replace the core and reconect the heater hoses under the hood

Definitely a vacuum problem....follow the vacuum line from the back of the inlet manifold to the vacuum ball and then thru the firewall and where it connects to multiple places....just a matter of elimination. This may take time but it is the only way. You don't have an amplifier - they are on climate control models. see attached pix for heater tap.
