Default How much work is involved in replacing the carpet in my VS?

Hey all, my carpet is starting to show its age.

What is involved in replacing the carpet?

I presume the seats and centre console have to come out. What else?

Is there anyone out there that does this type of work as i'm a bit of a noob. Like vehicle upholsterers etc?

    ute or sedan?

judgin by dp im guessin sedan

seats, rails, center consile will have to and anything attached to the floor where the carpet is will have to come out
go talk to an unpolster (unsure on spelling) but they do all uplostry for cars/boats/loundges ect have a chat to them and get some prices and details on how to do it. main thing is to look around and get different prices and see what they will use and look at the quality of the carpet they use

What a pain in the ass. I wonder how much someone else would charge me to do it? Anyone got any rough ideas?

    Any upholsterers reading this?

Lol how did you think it would happen? Just rip it up and it magically refits underneath the seats?
Don't mean to be a prick but it's pretty self explanatory.

You can get brand new carpets off ebay for around the 150 mark i think.

If you know what you're doing you could easy get it done in a few hours.

It is also a good idea to replace underlay under the carpet.

You will also most likely have to cut holes for the shifter and handbrake depending on who you buy it from.

It looks like a painful job but have a mate round, couple of rums and it will get done in no time.

I had a magazine lying around with a DIY and it sounded fairly straight forward, the article said it could be done in a day.

Thats my problem. I have no idea how the centre console comes out. Where are the bolts located?

    Found this:

    Centre Console

    1. Remove the console attaching screws in the console storage compartment (under the carpet) with a philips screwdriver.
    2. (Auto) With a screwdriver unclip the top selector panel from the under the dash panel and console, lift the selector panel, twist around the gear lever 'T' and remove.
    3. Pull the handbrake up as far as it will go. Pull zip down.
    4. Prise the console top section and attaching screws at the front of the console with a philips head screwdriver.
    5. Disconnect any electrical connections that may be present for accesories and lights.
    6. Carefully remove the centre console by lifting up at the rear to help clear the hand brake handle, then slide back and up to free console.

    Removing The Cenre Console?

Looking more than likely now that i'll have a crack at this myself...

Start with the rear seats and trim leaving the drivers seat in place. If you reach a point in which you have had enough, drive it to someone who can finish it.

May as well have a shot at it or at least partially strip the interior to save cash and learn! Might take you 5 hours the first time and 2 the next!

Fellas its really not hard to take it all out. I had all the seats out in 15 minutes. I could have the console out in another 10. It's not rocket science.

If you buy the right carpet it should fit perfectly.
