hi there guys i need some help with a cam that i have bought from a guy for $100 brand new in box.
the number i have found is 883931 which leads me to believe its a hydraulic cam. the questions are as follows
1. What are the best lifters to go with the cam?
2. Do i need to raise the comp?
3. Whats the best way to raise comp if need be?
4. What else do i need to do for the cam to work propperly
i already have the exhaust and i am working on the cai i m fairly fresh when it comes to modifying so any help would be great thanks
Paul
I would use comp cams 875-12 lifters.
You can raise the comp with cometic head gaskets or have the heads shaved.
Get a double row timing chain, stronger pushrods and stronger valve springs.
You should also get a cam install gasket kit and a vrs gasket kit.
do you know the rough cost of this as i am working to bout a 1k budget
did i mention its to go in a VR SS 5.0L
The 875's are for the v6. I'll look up the 308 part#.
You would do this easily under a 1k.
how far off 300hp would i be??
883931 "H268" 206 206 112 448 448 1500–4000RPM HYD
Its only a very small cam, To go on the cheap i wouldnt worry bout the lifters standard will do
but 99284-16 Is the anti pump up lifter part number
comp of the engine will be fine.
this cam is not much more then standard more of a towing cam.
oh really so was a waste of a $100?? damnit haha
will it still sound better? lumpier or do i need to go a bigger cam for that
Na wont really be any lumper. You want something with about a 110 degrees lobe separation for a bit of lump.
Pretty popular is the crane 286 cam
so it was a waste of money?
If you wanted lump and good power gains yeah. But you could still use it and get a bit more power and better performance low to mid range. Or just throw it on ebay and get ya money back.
heres a link to the crane site scroll down till you find your cam part number and read bout it
