Hi Guys, New to the forum so first off G,Day, Secondly have just bought a really nice 96 VS Commodore Sedan in pristine condition with only 106,000 on the clock with back up service books, my question/s are as follows 1. Does the VS have a Timing Chain or Timing Belt ? 2. If timing chain when do you know when it needs replacing ? and if a belt at how many kms and what is the usual costs involved ?, 3. Have noticed that the accelerator pedal is somewhat stiffer/tighter than my previously owned 04 Camry - is this normal for a Commodore and if not what could be the possible cause and fix ?.
Sorry for all the questions and look forward to your responses.
Tony
No timing belt, just a timing chain.A chain will usually last as long as the engine, they are usually replaced at rebuild time. The chain tensioner can sometimes fail in these engines.
Accelerator pedal should not be stiff - check/lube the pedal shaft and also remove plastic engine cover (4 acorn nuts) and check that cable is not kinked. They are usually pretty smooth.
