Hi guys just need to know if its illegal to run 15 inch stockies on the rear if i have 17s on the front?? going easternats and my rear 17s are stuffed so i need some roadworthy tyres on there!! cos im sure cops will be checking cars, Thanks
pretty sure its not illegal... but it just looks sus and makes them wana pull u over
haha yeah i dont mind being pulled over id run 4 but only have 2 dammit, cheers for that mate.
In qld it would be - cant imagine other states being any different
AFAIK In NSW, you have to have all 4 tyres and wheels the same size and profile for it to pass rego inspections/to be registerable.
So, it may be a bit of a grey area, but if you're going to the Easternats I wouldn't risk it. Cops will be looking for anything to defect people.
yea in qld it illegal i got defective vehicle ticket on me caprice for having me factory 16's on the front and 2 stocko 15's on the back couple years ago even though every one drives around with thier stockos on the back if cops are low on there quota for the month they will nail u to get their quota up
I dont see a problem with it . youve got both the rears at 15's and fronts are both 17's
Id say its more dangerous if you have 1 on the rear after putting the spare on after a flatty.
they allow that which is stupid
Pretty sure the rule is rears must be the same or larger than the front unless it's a spare which is suitably speed rated. Makes sense - smaller/narrower tyre on the rear = less grip = bigger chance of rear lock up and spinning the car under heavy braking.
+ p plater stocky rears = epic fail.
Reaper
yeh theres law against having different pattern tread too
Stuntmanmike: At least he didn't advise for me to check the head light fluid and bring it in to tune the radio...
put 15's all round, solves all your problems
well there ya go....
every commodore ive owned has been slammed and spent a fair bit of time with stockies on the back due 2 camber wear and ive never been picked up on it... even with 20s on the front (which i can understand if i did get done)
but gettin done with 16s on front and 15s rear is just ridiculous.. even 17s
alot safer to have roadworthy 15s on the rear than bald 17s
if u that worried about it just get 2 cheap 17" tyres for now
Ok thanks for that guys ill try and see if any mates have another 2 stockies with decent tyres, it would be a pain in the ass getting done for that, Might take some pics at easternats if i do ill chuck them up got the clubby all polished up for it she looks sweeeeeeeet.
i ran 14s on the rear and 17s on the front for years never had a problem
Its illegal in nsw all wheels have to be the same size unless you get a flat tyre and put the spare on
