    Default Driveline rumble

Just got back from a quick trip down to Sydney and noticed that my car has a really persistant rumble at anything over 100 km/h. The gear selector shakes about a bit and... Well... Yeah.. I can't really describe it much but its not smooth like it used to be. The Oil level on the gear box is fine and if it somewhat related, there is a bit of noise coming from the diff (IRS) and it seems to ... Well "slam" when I accelerate after just idling along.

    Anybody got any suggestions?

Possibly a worn universal joint - the first one to go is the one nearest the diff - also could be a bad CV joint in one of the axles or the centre bearing on the propshaft. Try jacking one rear wheel up and with gear in P rotate the wheel clockwise and anti-clockwise whilst listening for clunks etc....otherwise put it on ramps and ckeck for movement. Also check your wheel nuts.

Probably going to be the centre bearing on the tail shaft.

The "slam" could be a worn diff mounting bush.

Could I possibly get a picture of what I am looking for with these? Or even just a part number would do so I could head down to the local store and take a look.

I don't like the sound of the Uni joint going.. I saw on ebay they are $700+; Is this correct? I will post back later with the results, I gotta take the car out this arvo and will test when I get home.

hako: Jacked it up just then and could only get a barely audible noise when moving the wheel. The wheel didn't move a real lot (Only slightly each way).
Bret_jjj: Like I said, I just hit ebay just for a quick price check.. I guess that $700 would have been quite a few pieces then.

Any other suggestions before I put it on ramps tomorrow and give it a good look? (Damn Daylight savings and the lack of lighted hours during the day)
