Hi people,
First thing is first... I am happing to admit that I am a female and dont know much about cars and need help.
It all started when I was sold a "lemon" on high finance still paying it off have no choice but to try to keep it running.
She is over reving in first... nearly upto 4000 and hesitating to change to second especially on inclines. Once she is warm she runs alot better, but not perfect. once we get into second she runs fine and changes gears fine without reving out. On idle she sits at about 900. the car has endles work done to it in the last 18 months by a mechanic mostly on the engine and now the trans is being a cow to me and I am sick of paying a mechanic @ $80 an hour. The fluid level is fine on the trans stick the fluid does have a slight brown tinge to it. My trans dip stick seal was stuffed and due to small town and 5 day weekend had to bodge up something to stick in the hole... corked up a bit of garden hose and put that in the pipe, it went down about 3 inches...
Any help and thoughts would be muchly appreciated.
Cheers![]()
oh... and its a vs![]()
Does it still rev out to 4000rpm on flat ground, with light throttle?
Keep an eye on your speed and see if it is moving along with rpm, if the rpm goes up quickly with little increase in speed, that may be the transmission slipping.
Slightly brown trans fluid, does it still have some red to it, or has it gone brown? Also, does it smell burnt?
Check out my VR!

if you manually shift from 1-2 when cold how does it shift then? Straight away? Also it revs to 4000rpm before it shifts up, does it rev up without picking up speed?
hhmmmmm.... its lacks power while revving out but once it finally makes it into 2nd its fine (takes a while to get the speed up a: it revs bad and b: putting the foot down does not increase the power... manually shifting from 1st to 2nd revs out real bad and no power... there is still some red colour to it... did not smell it. While driving the other day there was a burning smell when it reved real bad. Its now at mechanics... been there for a day and a half and they still havnt found whats wrong with it.... I purchased it second hand.
Definitely sounds like a slippa.
Worn out or burnt forward band, could be also something wrong with servo, it need more line pressure to engage in 2nd that why it revs to much. Better take it to trans especialist to sort it out....
Had to get a full trans rebuild... she be a good car soon... engine has just about been re-built, now the transmission aswell... will eventually get around to making it look the part... think i have spent around $9000 in the last 18 months... gotta love that... havnt even got around to a nice set of wheels yet, or an amp and sub for that matter lol. Theres lemons and then ya got lemons, think I got the lemon of all lemons with this one.
Cheers guys for the help.
