G'day,
Ive got a VR 215i M6 Senator I've slowly been building up to roadworthy over the last couple weeks after i bought and drove it back from Adelaide. (to Melbourne)
I've had a few error codes I've been working through, and i when i was checking out the ISS i found that the fuse block for security signal is missing from the fuse box in the engine bay... Was there a chance it wasn't installed, or is it likely someone tried to steal the car once upon a time?
Any information would be helpful, thanks
Nick
Im pretty sure the iss system came out from vs onward in the hsv. Is there a iss system installed cause it may have been put in incorrectly.
The car is getting LPG taken out atm so i cant go have a look. It has some kind of security system with the flashing red light on the centre console next to the rear de-mister button, and when i turn the key off it beeps. Has central locking...
*edit*
i would put money on the security system being from the factory... was there something other than ISS?
Thats your normal security. If your car has the iss system it will have a little black plastic plate with a red led under the center console lid and would have come with at least 1 black tag which turns it off. Preferably if it has it you would have also got a red tag as well but as i said befor when i looked into it (my senator has it and was trying to find out more about it) it was on the vs range onwards from factory but it could be installed to older models
Ah thanks for that, should have the car back tonight or tomorrow so ill have a look. Any knowledge about the missing fuse/s? Ill get a pic of it up as soon as i can, as well as a thread for the car.![]()
I would say its not there cause the system isnt installed but could have been installed if the original owner opted for it when purchasing. Just a guess tho.
Code 31 is usually a bad read from the key head. The metal ring on in the ignition barrel has to contact the button on the key, pull the ring up a bit so it will contact the key through the full turn of the ignition.
Thanks for that, just got a new key, and i did notice that metal plate is looking a bit worn. Worth looking for a new one or should i remove it and give it a clean?
If the contacts between the ignition key and the key reader ring are bad and dont connect properly, then the car will not start at all, thats the whole idea of the immobiliser in the first place, you gotta have the right key to send the right signal to the BCM and if that signal cant get through, then it wont start, plain and simple...According the the workshop manual, error code 31 is set from having a bad or non existant security signal between the BCM to ECU,not between the ignition key and BCM...It also says that when error code 31 is set, there will be a 1 second delay in starter motor operation when the ignition key is turned to start...
You can turn the key to on, the key and the ring lose contact because the key might be a bit sloppy in the barrel, and code 31 will set. The car will still start because the key will contact the ring as you turn it again. This has happened to a few people. Bend the ring out a bit and see what happens.
ISS was only available sometime after June 1996 ie. well into the VS model year range. My wife's VS Clubsport didn't have it when purchased from new and we had it retrofitted about 12 months later. At the time it had to be returned to HSV to install the ISS.
I do seem to have a one second delay before she starts turning over, ill pull out the BCM and see how i go. Thanks guys!!
