ok first post i replaced my steering rack a couple of days ago ever since had this clanging sound on the left side when turning left, since then i have removed the front strut and tightened everything up again new front struts and springs are fine only 4 months old all new bushes radius rod control arm yada yada tried skinny tire on front to make sure it wasnt tyre scrubbing strut checked rack and pinon nuts and bolts all good please help going nutz .... also just had wheel alignment done
yeah rack seems good no leaks no float handles fine turns both left and right with ease just this clanging sound high pitch the heavier the turn, doesnt effect steering what so ever but loud enough that a defect would get slapped on it
has anyone else had this problem or heard of it could it possibly be a rack end? it was running fine in a vs drove it to my place vr and vs are the same rack, same rack ends arent they
Can you get the car on a hoist and see what happens when there is no weight?
This Might point to a rack issue rather than components clashing when weighted

cheers for replies but....... sway bar links replaced with suspension 4 months ago all front bushes replaced with nolethane with the exception of the inner control arm bushes got told to go pedders rubber so did, car jacked up wheels turn left and right lock 2 lock no noise and same distance perfectly. inspected all bushes links pins everything is better than good but still have this problem i mean the car drives sweet just the horrible obvious noise when i turn left and cant affort a defect. any other ideas could it be an internal problem in the rack or rack end but 2 do only one side ? im going nuts trying to figure this out
Are the nuts tight on the link pins? The washers can jingle.
yep done tight everythings done up sweet ill change the rack back to the leaky old crappy one tommorow, and maybe that will stop it, can't see how but has to be the rack. its a recon but everything else has been checked and re-cheeked if its the rack i feel sorry for the place i got it from as they do the work there im gonna rip them a new 1. ill post my findings cheers!
