Hey guys, any harm in letting an Ecotec warm up for 5 to 10 minutes in the cold mornings?

Couple threads on this but they're pretty old and I don't wanna dig up old threads.

    Thoughts anyone?

I thought it was better to warm them up, something to do with the pistons and giving it too much cold = bad.

Only thing i would know of is that it wastes petrol.

You run the risk of glazing the bores if you let them idle too long. Just drive it softly for 5 min or so and that's all they need.

I guess I should explain the reason for the question:

As soon as I exit my court I have up uphill section of about 800 meters with 8 sets of speedbumps. It's impossible to keep the revs low. I curse these ####ing speedbumps every morning.

Just drive it normally (ie gently) and it'll be fine. As long as you don't over rev it and hold gears etc it won't make any difference.

IF YOU WORRIED? let it run or 1 or 2 mins at most then head off and evry thing should be fine.....ecotecs realy dont need a lot of warmining up...if you warming at 10mins over 1yr thats 3,650 minutes per year or 5minutes is 1,825 minutes verses 1 minute at 365 minutes per year,,,,,id be doing the 1 minute warm up and using the other 9mintes of your warm up to get some km on the speedo................cheeers

I believe that once the oil pressure is established, and the oil has circulated around all the top of the engine, (after draining down to the sump from not running all night)

you should be fine... and that can be achieved in under 1-2mins easily...

Just don't "floor it" between speed humps.

Yeah, just avoid the 5000rpm launches for a few minutes and it'll be fine.
