    Default Overheating????

I have a 96 berlina v6 sedan, series 2, 240,000 k's on the clock, dual fuel, runs rather well, good condtion inside and out, one small knock on left rear door.

When it was brought, about 12 mths ago, had it servied, tuned on gas, they fixed heater hoses, as heater was not working, and replaced thermastat, ran well, of recent 6 mths, have notice it gets rather hot, the heat needle sits about half way up the dial 99 per cent of the time, goes to about 3/4 when sitting in traffic idle.

The radiator is full, and is running on coolant, the overflow is often empy and needs to be topped up very regularly, every 2 3 days, it has not boiled, however, when you stop driving, and if you take radiator cap off, it sometimes will spit up into the air, or just bubble

Any ideas????? Also when driving if climate control is off, hot air comes via the vents and center consol gets warm, feel it on left leg when driving????

    Any ideas??????

    Thanks

    Water pump and leaking radiator.

Water pumps get old, the blades on the pump wear away.

doesnt have to be hot, you can let it sit there and idle, with no radiator cap on and it will bubble and spirt

    temp
Water pump has been replaced and the radiator has been pressure tested both within the last 6-12 months, do you still think 3/4 on the temp gauge is normal???

Sounds like head gasket or head. Do the bubbles look smokey or smell? Oily water? A radiator repair shop/mechanic could test it for exhaust gas.

its not the head, no oil in the water, no smoke or smell, just bubbles like boiling

it will do it when it just idles between half and 3/4 on the temp gauge, is it normal to get up to 3/4 on the temp when idle and when driving?

Seems hot to me. My 8 gets to a little over 1/4 in traffic. Check your thermostat. If that's ok get it tested at a radiator place for exhaust gas and pressure test it if it passes all those your radiator is probably hmmm.. and you'll be right in front of a radiator shop!
