Hey all got a little problem at the moment.
Me Radiator Cap was leaking in me caprice v8
i noticed yesterday when i decided to take it for a drive to the shops it was very spluttery
today i noticed it leaking and ended up driving it to autobarn to get new cap and some odds and ends for her.
When i replaced the Radiator cap i decided to have a look in me air box which has been choped at the front as well for more air.
when i looked in the air box the bottem was full of collant and same as me air filter had a look in the throttle body looked fairly clean and the inside of the top of the air box.
next step i cleaned out the coolant from the air box got a new filter while i was there
still the same on the way home.
going to take me throttle body off and have a look and see if much crap in there.
Any ideas what could be going on checked me oil didnt see ne water in it.
Presumably the coolant has sprayed into the airbox - air currents under the bonnets when the car is moving can go in any direction and I'd guess some of the coolant has sprayed over the plug leads and/or the distributor cap or coil....this will make the plugs short out and the engine will miss and probably splutter. Once the coolant has dried the engine should run smoother.
So, unless there were any other symptoms like boiling, there should have been no damage done...the coolant will evaporate and the miss should go away. When you take off the throttle body just make sure there is no residual coolant floating around there as glycol can go acidic in time...although this would only be the case if there was a lot of coolant. I'd also try and remove any dried coolant from engine parts as this doesn't look the best.

when i discovered the coolant in the air box yesterday there was a complete layer of coolant in the bottem of the air box couldnt see any of the plastic down the bottem would have been a good 100 ml in there the filter is compltley blocked with the coolant tried by blowing in to the bottem of it with me mouth which i couldnt blow through and the new filter again was easy to blow through
going to pull me plugs out today i got new ones here as well which was some of the odds and ends i bought yesterday to have at home going to get me compression tester out and have a look to at all cylinders hoping they all still over the 200 mark it is a mildly worked 304 with 10.5:1 compression as well thinking water going through seeing if it has dropped a cylinder down so i can determine if it could have possibly bent a valve or any thing as well which i think doing the compression test will be not a bad idea when i rip the plugs out
Do a compression test is never a bad idea, what i would check is trying to buy a second hand radiator to see if there is pin hole in yours. I had a pin hole in the sde of mine and found coolant in some very weird places
the radiator in it is a brand new dessert cooler 3 core the leak came from me cap i could see it dripping at the back of the cap at the top when it was running the rubber on the cap had a slight split on it the more i look atm with the throttle body off i can feel alot of moisture in side the 90mm hole into the manifold atm waiting on me mate to come over atm going to do the compression test on it im suspecting i got some thing up with no 1 as the spark plug was completey closed on the gap let u know how im going still up for ideas though if any one wants to shoot away
one good thing they still all aroudn 220 on compression
think im pulling the motor out got me doubts about it checked me compression again last night and got 120 on no 1 150 on no 3 120 on 5 and 120 on 7 thought me compression tester might be playing up got the same result again on those 4 with out checking the leftside bank had it fired last night for few minutes sounded like a v8 lawn mower tried to fire it this morning and wont fire thinking i got a problem in me heads or something going to rip her out strip her down go over the motor freshen her up again maybe do some more work to her fingers crossed problem goes away but on one hand if something still up to buggery im going to have a fresh motor again i tried swapping all the sensors with me other runing 304 ive ran a code check and got a code 31 Theft detereent missing and gota code 35 idle speed error as well
