Post Engine light fault code vr v8

I am about to buy a vr v8 auto, the owner has said that the engine comes on sometimes and was told by the previous owner that it was a sensor on the auto trans causing this.
not being able to check the fault codes as yet, has any one had this issue before or could it be something else or what sensor is on the auto?

yeah you have to get the code first and look up what it is before commiting to buy

if the engine light is on the cars unroadworthy so if it has a roadworthy written on it
i would just walk away now....
