VS Caprice steering rack.

Hi guys, been a while since i've been on here, just bought a new VS Caprice.

The bloke i bought it off said it had a power steering leak from the rack.
He also mentioned that one of his goober mates had put hair conditioner in the pump in an attempt to stop the squealing noise they can sometimes make, Seems like the bloke has absolutly no F-ing idea what he was doing, thus resulting in an apparently rooted rack. as it's also going through fluid like it was water.

The steering if very very light, way too light for any car..

Any ideas?
Also, are the racks in statesmans different from normal VR/VS commodores? V8 and V6? i heard that the Calais, Statesman and Caprice have some electronic assist crap?

yes its not just me they are light~!
they have an electrical OVER hydraulic system that increases assistance at low speeds and decreases it at higher speeds
later models ditched this idea as when the electrics failed it became unbearable to drive....

thee old conditioner trick increases the viscosity of the fluid for about 500km's (without major leaks) to reduce cavitation in the pump (which means aeration of the fluid) and it also slows weeps of oil

anyway it wont destroy the pump or the rack but it will have to be flushed out.....
you need to find the leak you have and go from there~!
