Vs conversion auto to manual

Just done a conversion from auto to manual, Starter motor don't seem to be hitting the flywheel properly its grinding against the flywheel spools and spins out but won't grab,, Anyone have any ideas or hints would be much appreciated.............

Is it the manual starter? and is the flywheel all bolted up properly, stupid questions but have seen this done man times, IS the starter bolted in properly as well?

yes to all of the above,, would it make a difference if the box and flywheel were out of a VN blocks are the same just the top end are different set up.......
