    Default Fuel/Ignition Problems - VR 215i

G'day, been having nothing but problems in the first month of owning this car, but I'm determined to get it back to where its supposed to be.

She just conked out on the Eastern today on the way to mothers day lunch, stalled at 100kph in 6th, then just couldn't start it was trying to crank but just kept knocking away not igniting.
Tried to roll start using my momentum, but it just jerked the car nothing else. I pulled over, and after many different attempts to get her started I managed to get the fuel coming and got her started, but 10km back the other way she stalled again and i flattened the battery trying this again.

Over the last month of owning the car, i have removed LPG from the car, have had fault codes

    19 (No TPS movement)
    13 (No O2 Sensor Signal)
    36 (Vacuum Leak)
    35 (Idle Speed Error)
    31 (Theft Deterrent Signal Missing)

I've repaired/replaced the hoses to fix the vacuum leak, had the fuel pump tested, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, upper cylinder cleaner, run injector cleaner through the car. And I've replaced the fuel accumulator (damper) New tyres, brakes Etc. not important

The idle speed motor isn't working, so I've got a replacement to put in, absolutely any info from here on what to do next would be greatly appreciated! I just want to keep her on the road for more than a week for once!

    Nick

Forgot to mention, an allen key was found on the ignition coil and was causing a short, but seemed to be fixed when it was gone...
I have been having a dodgy idle speed and she stalls frequently, but i can usually start her again. Then when shes going i sometimes have lurches at low rpm, or when starting to rev she will have gaps of fuel (air?) delivery and have intermittent power. But sometimes though.... she works perfectly and its absolutely amazing...

    I know the pain brother!
even though you had the fuel pump tested, try replacing it with a new one.
mine tested ok by the mechanic however it wasn't keeping fuel pressure up over time.
a fuel pump would probably set you back around $120 for a cheapie or could set you back up to $300 plus.
I replaced mine after copping some crap through the fuel line (extreemly bad batch of fuel ) & mine runs heaps better.
    Then the distributer failed!
good luck I hope you sort it out!
is what we'd all rather be doing.

Yeah i was considering that, but i heard they don't make the direct replacements for the fuel pumps anymore... I found this one Delphi and it says its genuine...

Check on eBay. There is a company that sells reconditioned modules (changeover) and seem to do a very thorough job of reconditioning.

OK so now she died on me, could get her started sometimes, then she would just putter out. I checked how much fuel was in the tank, said 28L on the dash, with the needle near half way. So I put 10L of fuel in her and off she went. Now when she gets anywhere less than half a tank (40L) she starts playing up and cutting out at mid RPM..... I am yet to replace the fuel pump... ill see how that goes, but im thinking is the fuel sender unit off? Or lying to me?

    *edit*

Filled her up and the computer said she had 42L left in the tank. The bowser clicked at 63L or something, then when i checked the computer again said had 90-91L in her... Thought the fuel tank was 83L. All confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

it could be a broken fuel return line inside the tank itself. i heard somewhere that the return line feeds into the in-tank swirl pot and if its cracked then the fuel leaks out before it gets to top-up the swirl pot. apparently the symptoms include cutting out with less than 1/2 a tank cos the swirl pot is running dry

Its definately more than 75L its either 83 or 90, im going to have to drain it at some point. Ill fill her up and find out. But I will check the return line, as she is still surging on a full tank

On board computer says 90-91L on a full tank...
