The time has come to get rid of the engine and gearbox in my wagon.
Have not had the car long, but the engine uses a lot of oil and the auto gearbox has some faulty solenoid causing rough gear changes and a permanently lit engine light.
I have a VS donor car complete with ecotec 3.8 which is better than my engine and the auto that someone just recently replaced at a cost of over 2k. (receipts)
What I need to know is what bits and pieces will be required to change the engine/gearbox as a whole unit.
Next weekend is when it will be done, so I have this week to arrange the parts required.
Hire an engine hoist
Exhaust will need undoing somewhere... not sure where is best??? and what gaskets needed there.
I'd like to try and keep the oil in the gearbox and am hoping to keep it in there by pulling out the tailshaft and quickly wrapping a rag over it followed by some sort of thicker than normal plastic bag or something with rubber bands.
Sounds a bit like a bush job, but when on a tight budget, am open to ideas here too.
Would be nice to have a spare yoke to just plug it with, but that is not to be.
I have coolant, but won't initially put that in until I know all is well.
Also have new engine mounts to fit.
What else will be required?
Cheers in advance
