Hey,
As we know the key buttons on the vr up are crap n fall apart. Now not a lot of people do not want to fork out $80 plus for a new key with the same crap rubber.
Also if you dont want to make replacement buttons like a few other members, you dont have to. Everyone has their own preference but it wasnt for me.
So on ebay you can purchase silcone buttons, just the buttons for between $5-10. that price range includes 2 button n 3 button remotes, i paid 10 for 2 sets of the 3 button because it was cheaper n i got black n red buttons. The buttons come in different colours n the literally pop right in once the previous buttons are removed.
also their quality is a lot better than holdens rubber.
So if you want to install them n make sure they dont come out (mine did once before i removed the rubber completely after that they didnt but i felt like pulling something apart), so search for the how to forum on pulling your key apart. its really easy but you have to be carefull. i didnt need to read it but it has pictures.
You you will need a stanley knife or razor blade anything along those lines, needle nose pliers and superglue.
So once you key is apart cut away the rubber (if you still have it) make it nice n clean, there is a bit of over hang on the silcone buttons so cut in the extra 1mm or so. that extra cut is for the base of the rubber near your lock n boot release button.
put the buttons in and superglue them in on the inside of the remote, all the way around for good measure. wait till its dry before you put the key back together but do not glue it yet! check to make sure it works first.
once you have checked to see if it works n it does pull it apart again. Put the superglue on the plastic edges not the silcone chip.
then on the outside run the superglue around the little indentation in the middle of the key. (helps if you have a steady hand to make it even)
and volia you now have a working key again also u can change the battery as well if need be (Again search the how to forum for that how to)
If you do not have a steady hand n slip up n u got superglue over your remote get a fine sandpaper n go over the edges, this will also remove the nice shiny gloss from your remote.
I didnt personly like that so i removed all the shiny gloss from the remote n it is now a very smooth matte black colour. it looks quite nice.
thanks for reading, sorry for no picuters

That's a good post. I found that when I did the same, the buttons stuck out a bit far, and could be depressed whilst in your pocket....no problem if you are away from your car but.....,
As always, it pays to have a second key as backup.
