Hi Just new here.
We have bought a vr wagon column shift auto and the reverse lights are playing up. Where do I find the reverse light switch?
Thanks Mick
Just get some new bulbs, never heard of a reverse light switch b4 until you asked about it,theres no such thing.

The reverse light switch should be in the column part around the steering wheel. In the normal autos they are attached to the side of the gear selector under neath the plastic console.
Yeah I think that I do but not as much as you

Yes they do. All cars have a reverse switch. How else do the lights turn on. Magic.
The commodore auto ones are on the selecter insode the car as i.stated above where the manual.ones are on the side of the box.
Ok mate thanx for that info

Thats cool mate.
LOL at the conversation...
okay so its actually right on top of the collum, if you take the plastics around the collum and ignition its right on top, my old man used to have a vg ute collum. and these things are very very common to fail, if you hold it slightly out of gear do they come on but not when in the gear properly ? mine used to do that.
Dont worry gem05 if you've never had to deal with this problem before then you wouldnt know it exsisted(the switch that is)
I knew that it exsisted I just wanted some one to lose it and make them angry and start an arguement because I just had my car stolen and Im not happy at all

We ALL HAVE 1 THING IN COMMON:THE RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF GRIP
I think the switch is actually on the side of the transmission - where the lever meets the trans. That's how the workshop manual shows it. This is for a column change auto wagon which the OP has...not a ute.

There are two.
The neutral start safety switch & the one located inside the car.
the one on the transmission is about $160 & the one inside the car is about $60.
The reverse lights are hooked into both I believe.
I had to buy one for the wife's VR 5lt & I bought the one for the box. wrong one wasn't it.
Oh well s*^t happens!
I hope that helps you out.
It looks easy enough.
just undo the three bolts from memory & unplug the switch on the side of the tranny.
you will have to have the car up on jack stands & i think the tranny needs to be in neutral.
installation should be reversal of removal procedure with attention to plugging the module in last.
I've been unable to track down a replacement reversing light switch for a VS manual gearbox. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might be able to find one?
