hey all,
i got a s1 vs v6 factory-manual wagon
ive currently got the following mods:
lowered on super low rear & sports low front (shortened shockers all round as well)
custom sound setup (pumps madd bass)
clear indicators (finally)
otr cai coming the next week or so
seeing as its getting towards tax time i reckon its time to plan how to spend the well earned money somewhere.
ive had a look at roller rockers, high flow cat, and the obvious 2.5' zorst
the roller rockers: mainly wanted to know which would be the best ratio to get in terms of low-mid range torque ie 1500-4000rpm
then theres whether to get the mace or yella terra or other brands?????
high flow cat: ive heard it aint worth it for a lil ol 6 cylinder but im lookin at a supercharger down the track and i may as well get one now yeah??
zorst: wont even bother askin bout this as its as obvious as the letters on the keyboard
appreciate the help guys (and girls if there are any on here haha)
I was happy with mid range gains from 1.9 rockers. I think with the strong Aussie dollar at the moment its cheapest to get Yella Terra rockers from the states, even with postage. Mace and YT both offer similar power gains but personally I chose YT since they are lighter and have a roller tip which I figure probably is better for my valve train.
Id consider getting an LSD too since live axle commodores spin the rears stupidly easy which is fun when your 18 but wears off quickly
Given the RPM 1500-4000RPM range you're looking at improving (depending on your budget) I would would consider only getting a cat back exhaust done (assuming your current cat is fine), a 25mm manifold insulator and 12mm plenum spacer.
In regards to rocker ratios 1.9:1 would be all I would go in your case which will work well. Physical weight between brands of rockers is not a critical characteristic of a rocker arms, mass moment of inertial is. It's for this reason our rockers are less likely to require valve springs to replaced then any other rocker on the market. In saying this though you'll be happy with either set for your application.
As for purchasing rockers stateside I can tell you they are limited in supply with odd ratios in stock such as 1.6:1's. It will be interesting to see how much manufacturing and engineering work is left in this country (excluding mining) in the next 12 months. I think the last statement is a topic for the pub section of the forum

I'm going the cam route.
Intense cam and restricted 3/8 pushrods, manley springs and valves, compcams lifters and valve locks and yt 1.6's.
About $1300.
Not really going to be the rev range your looking for though.
