Was under the car today sussing out some oil leaks and I found that there's a small hole which is leaking oil. I believe the hole is on the transmission tunnel, just wondering if there's supposed to be a hole there. (Seems unlikely because oil leaks out of it).
sorry for bad pictures
Is it auto?
Could be tranny fluid...
Or engine oil leaking out of a few different places. Rear main, sump....
I'm saying 99 percent chance that it not spose to be there, but someone may shock me and say its there intentionally
Yeh its an auto
its definately engine oil and i know my rear main is leaking but I have sat and watched engine oil drip out of this hole.
I presume that is a pic of the torque converter cover in which case the hole is supposed to be there so it doesn't fill up with oil/fluid in the event of a leak. If it's engine oil then chances are your rear main or (if you are lucky) the rear of the sump gaskit is leaking. If it is auto fluid then the front seal of the auto is probably dead.
Reaper
yep another vote for rear main
very common for them to leak, mine still weeps after putting a new one in
if your going for a rego check , degrease it all and put a small bit of black silicone in the hole
then it wont leak at rego inspection
later on just dig the silicon out![]()
Yes that hole is meant to be there, every auto vs has it. It is there so if oil or water leaks from the back of the engine block, it can just drain out. Otherwise it can go inside the starter motor and short it out. If its engine oil leaking out of it then is more then likely the rear main seal, if its transmission fluid then the front transmission seal is no good.
