Please no smarta**es ( ie if you dont know you shouldnt own a car ect ect ect)
only asking for advice!
If you got a car thats been sitting there for awhile what would be your 1st steps in making the engine drivable!
Would you have to pull the engine apart?
or just cjeck the basics
remember im only asking a general question
thats guy in advance
Depends how long "A while" is. I would start by changing oil, all filters, plugs and possibly checking the throttle body to make sure it's not jammed and clean it all up with carby cleaner.
I'm not an expert, but if everything else seems ok, then I'd crank her over and hope for the best.
If the fuel has been sitting in the tank for a long time, maybe drain and re-fill?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Depends how long its been sitting. But basically change the oil and coolant and you should be fine. Keep a close eye on everything for a while incase it quickly develops any leaks etc from a seal or similar that may have begun to perish.
That's where i'd start.
Dont forget to change the battery the one in it probably died a while ago aswell
If it has been standing a long time I would do as above but I would remove the plugs and spray some oil into the cylinders and turn it over with out the plugs in and pump some oil through it. Better make sure the brakes are not seized before driving and check fluids in the gearbox/transmission and diff.
not 100% sure been out of rego since 2008 but the guy said he had it running but cant really trust him he could just be saying that
both of my VS's were sitting for a while before i got them. The first one was the brother in laws car and was sitting for five years before i got it. I changed the oil, coolent, radiator hoses (they felt funny when i squeezed them), all of the filters, fuel pump (stopped working while not active) oh and give the serpentine belt a good check over as mine snapped on the way home.
The second was only sitting for about a year, it had the coolent, filters, oil and tyres changed.
