My m8 kindly offered to put my new battery in my VS V6 for me 'NOW' as a strict rule of mine 'I NEVER' let anyone touch my car, i do pretty much everything myself, but i was side tracked with something else & thinking ANY IDIOT can change a battery HOW WRONG I WAS... all i heard was a whole lot of load swearing coming from my garage & went running out 2 see wot the fuss was about O.M.G the altenator was smoking HE'D CONNECTED IT UP 2 THE WRONG TERMINALS w.t.f red2red black2black... pretty sure the computer is cooked, i have replaced the alt since, its turning but not kicking I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WOT HAPPENS WHEN THE COMPUTER GETS FRIED SO CAN ANYONE "HELP" me???![]()
Stupid question: But have you checked all of your fuses? He could have (For your sake) just blown an Engine or ignition fuse.
WOW i remember when my mate did the exact same thing the only thing that happen was the black wirer(-) completely fried it self except that was in a 1981 celica lol but as (Bourbonated) said check the all the main fuses and if u got a mate thats a mechanic get em to plug a diagnostics tool in and then check everything
Oh Jeez, Im sorry but really how hard it is, 2 its wires. I would look & test all your fuses.
and yes do not let anyone else touch your car unless they are a very well rated mechanic lol, i only let them do the hard stuff like engine mounts lol
Also do a Diagnostic code check for the car.
As Bourbonated says, before you worry about other exotic (expensive) problems, check your fuses and also check the condition of your fusible links (small panel under the fuse box) as well.
Most ECUs will have reverse polarity protection, GM does. Start looking at the main and sub fuses, also the body earth return lead for damage..
Seen it happen alot of times and havent had to replace the ECMs from reverse polarity.
I did this on my old Mazda van and fortunately it only blew the main fusible link and 2 other fuses. I can tell you its not not the kind of mistake you make twice so Im glad I made it on a non EFI car with less things to fry
THANKxxx2 all that replied...once i read the replies & stopped thinking the worst, i got the trusty workshop manual out and did study the wiring back... i found the MAIN fusable link BLOWN & the hazard lights and cruise control fuses under the dash MELTED, i haven't replaced any of them yet but after a trip down to my local Supa-Cheap later this morning I WILL post the final outcome... CHEERS XX
So how did you go??
