Alright, my VS commodore needs new brake pads, and the discs are starting to wear out.
I'm mainly concerned with my front brakes, not so much with the rears.
Would it be smart to change the discs from the front over to some VT discs instead of getting new VS ones?
I'm guessing a few of you have done this.
how much would i be looking at to change them over?
thanks![]()
You won't gain anything by changing to VT discs alone, it's the calipers that make the difference plus the master cylinder - do a search on this forum and also look in the "how-to" section as it has been covered many times. Think it costs from $500 to $700 plus labour but don't quote me on that!
The standard VS brakes are "average" - upgrading to VT or VX gives you a lighter pedal and because they are larger physically they will resist fade better.

As hako said above but id recommend going to the ve setup as it cost about the same from about $650 + post for a kit off ebay plus fitting if you can't do it yourself.
The reason i say ve is because the ve caliper works better with the vs master cylinder than the vt calipers do thus not requiring a master cylinder conversion aswell.

Just machine your disks for about $20 a disk then dont run cheap shit pads like everyone does, and there is no prob with vs brakes.Everyone just goes cheap pads
hmm, yeah i might just get my VS ones machined or whatever, or just get some new VS ones
thanks
yeah ive also heard a rumour that " technically " its requred to get an engineers certificate for modifying the original specs on the vehicle for upgrading to vt - vz brakes ...didnt stop me...but for wat its worth just get some slotted vs brakes and new pads will be probably better and alot cheaper in the end anyway. front brake pads part number 1085, rears 1086.
yeah i was thinking about just getting new discs and good quality pads, i checked it out and it works out to be alot cheaper.
good thinking mate, get some slotted for some extra definition and if u end up with open big spoked wheels they will look more appealing![]()
yeah i actually got a pair of VY SS 18'' rims on the way, only costed me 70 bucks hahaha. im only concerned about the front braked, and just paint the calipers a different colour.
nice score there man 18's for 70 bux, seen him coming hahayeah man red was a bit common so i went silver on the calpiers looks nice..vy ss rims cover a fair bit of the wheel arch but hehe still look good wen u get a glimpse threw them but
cant complain though when you get 2 for 70 bucks, yeah the tires arent roadworthy but i know for a fact the rims have no rash on them or anything. all straight as well.
i want a set of simple 5 spoke 19''s on it, black with a chrome lip.
black with chrome lips look nice man, i always wanted a set of them but didnt wanna change from holden rims to aftermarket rims haha, im sure somewhere along the lines they will make a set like that - the e3 wheels look alright i reckon, wouldnt mind getting a set of them![]()
yeah, i dont have 2k to go and buy a set of the ve gts rims either so, ill stick with what i canhahah
FYI, I can do a set of slotted front rotors and pads for $220 shipped. The rotors are a custom slot that I get done.
These are the rotors:

ive got standard vs brakes on my senator and im more than happy with their braking performance
ive got slotted rda rotors all round and qfm hpx pads all round
i couldnt see the benefit in upgrading to ve brakes on a street driven car
and i highly highly recommend the qfm hpx pads

I'll have a think about it, $220 for pads and rotors, sound pretty good to me.
no idea what the the hpx stands for.
