hey guys, i need to replace my lower trailing arm front bush and was wondering how hard it is to do, also the best place to get a bush i only need a rubber one for now none of that nolathane stuff. i'm very handy with a spanner and would be able to do it my self once i understand how much is involved.
thanks for any help.
Fairly sure you will need a press to replace the bushes
When I did my upper trailing arm's I just bought the whole arm as it worked out easier
thanks mate, out of interest how much was the upper arm as i will need to redo my entire diff bush set up pretty soon as they have all copped a fair floging.
Arms are pretty expensive compared to just the bushes.. buy some mackay rubber bushes, you will need to press them though.
thanks mate that is exactly what i was thinking but it's completely dependent on how good condition my lower arms are in, as the eye in them is prone to warping and it wont seat the new rubber properly.
so hopefully i can just push out the old rubber and get a new one pressed in at pedders without having to replace the whole arm.
Also if i pull out my lower trailing arm and take it to pedders to get new rubbers is it possible to pull it out and fit back in with out having to drop down the whole diff?
pedders upper trailing arms retail for $110.00pr, brand new arms not reco with heavy duty rubber bushes, the same pedders rubber bushes on there own cost $108.00 for 4 bushes, your crazy if you just buy there bushes. and yes you can pull out the lower arms as long as the uppers are still in and the shocks are on. also do the bolts up when the car is on the ground with rubber bushes, because if you do them up when the diff is hanging down the bushes can tear and there stuffed.

thanks for the help guys, just gave pedders a call its $192 dollars for the one brand new trailing arm with heavy duty rubbers fitting cost as well (so for the two its aprox $400, does this sound like a good price?), so i think that that is my best option for my rear suspension as when our monaro goes in for paint ill stick the ute in the shed for a month or so and just work out all my problems including dropping out the diff and redoing all the rubbers and a set of lowered springs.
i would just get the lower arms rebushed as it a sh1t load cheaper than there new lower arms, and put the new upper arms in, also the lower rear bush is in the diff not the arms.
The nolothane brand bushes dont need to be pressed in because they come in two pieces instead of 1 single piece,so you can fit them yourself and save a heap of cash in labour costs. The only nolothane bushes that you need to get pressed in are the bushes where the rear lower control arm connects to the diff housing on the live axle models, these bushes stay in the diff housing when the lower control arm is removed..I pressed out the old rubber bushes out of the control arms myself with a bottle jack and a suitable sized socket, but it shouldnt cost much to get a workshop to press the old ones out if you cant get them out...also you can get complete brand new top control arms made by nolothane, these are made from square steel tube instead of the original pressed steel ones,I went into autobarn to buy new bushes for the top control arms, and the girl there said that the complete upper control arms from nolothane arent much more expensive than the price of the replacement bushes alone,so I just got the complete arms with the nolothane bushes already fitted, these are a good buy I reckon..they look a lot sturdier than the original ones too..
thanks for that guys, i think that the nolathane bush is an easy way out for this problem might give it ago, i called pedders and got a price on how much it would cost to get the old rubbers pressed out and new pressed in, it costs $110 bucks for 2 bushes and that they can only press the new bushes in if the control arms eye is in good condition, which in my situation i think that they are stuffed as the rubber has been broken for a while now and the bolt is against the eye which would probably cause a bit of damage specialy when its loaded up, so i might go down to pedders have them check it out if its possible to get new rubbers pressed in then ill do it if not ill just leave them they way they are for now untill i save up a bit of cash to pay for new lower control arms and possibly new upper arms to but well see how i go.
just looking for some cheaper options rather then the full kit from pedders and i found these
