Hey guys my vs got a lil hot then cooled nd wen i stoped nd turned car off i noticed coolant everywere it was coming from the resurve hose that runs 2 the bottom of car thinkin that the thermostats gone?? Any ideas
Cheers guys
So it was overflowing from the overflow bottle? Was it boiling? Chances are you have a blown headgasket or you need a new water pump
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Could be the thermostat.
Refil radiator and start it. Try to see where the waters coming from for sure. If it's coming out of the overflow bottle take the thermostat out and chuck it in some boiling water to see if it opens like it should.
I wouldnt jump to headgasket senario just yet
Wasn't jumping to the head gasket right away, was only stating as a possibility.

Your post suggests the gauge read HOT and then cooled and then you stopped...and coolant went everywhere.
My reading of that is the the coolant level was very low when it read HOT, then once it starts boiling etc the temperature sensor is no longer immersed in coolant and reads as though it is cooling....not so. Then when you stopped and turned the motor off, heat soak boiled the rest of the coolant making it all eject out the overflow hose.
So maybe a few questions need to be answered first:
Does the car overheat regularly
Does the car need coolant topping up regularly
What were the driving conditions when it overheated (dragging, uphill, cruising etc)
plus anything you think is relevant.

well generally 15 year old commodores have been running the wrong coolant for to long. it destroys commy radiators. and thats were id say ur leak is edge3
A radiator cap that is not holding pressure can cause these problems - cheap to replace.

I have been losing a litre of water everytime I drive 100km but I could never find the leak.
Until today.
Under your brake fluid reservoir, there is a plastic fitting with 4 hoses connected to it. They are the heater hoses. And that is where my leak is. I am told it is a common problem as the plastic becomes brittle.

Aussies2011,that plastic fitting is called the heater tap
How long since the last coolant change or flush?
Like above said check the thermostat and fill up again and put new radiator cap on as well after you flush it out..
15yr old commodores have common problems. last summer i fitted new radiator, new heater tap, new top and bottom radiator hoses. new thermostat it was stuck open, and did intake manifold gaskets as well as valve stem seals
Mine does not seem to have a overheating problem, even so it had no coolant in it when I bought it.
I added some coolant and put a new radiator cap on it.
It looks like the water pump has been replaced.

have you bothered to check if you fan works? sometimes the fuse for that will blow( its happened to me) and the car will overheat when just idling but when you drive it cools down again. that because the fan that is suppose to kick in when temp reaches half way was not working. and a few days i would pull over and i would have steam and coolant pissin out of the reserve tank,
cant believe qld lost!
sorry just read the post more and if its cleaking from the heater tap. you can get them brand new on ebay for unda 20 dollars with free shipping.

refill the system, bleed the air out, drive it, and see where the coolants coming from
