Hey Guys,
Got a code 24 so went and got another Speed Sensor today. I took out the 10mm bolt and have removed the connector but how the hell do I get the Speed sensor out? It's for a 93 VR Calais Auto V6.
Thanks

Just looking at the gregorys VRV6 workshop manual about the speed sensor, and it says-
1) confirm that error code 24 has set.
2)If error code 24 is set and the speedometer operates, check the memcal thats installed in the ECU.If the memcal is installed correctly and it is the correct one, then renew the ECU.
3)If the speedo doesnt operate, then disconnect the wiring from the speed sensor.
4)Measure the resistance between the speed sensor terminals with a multimeter,if the sensor resistance is not within specs, renew the speed sensor..
The speed sensor resistance(A/T only), is between 1260-1540 ohms.
The manual says that to remove the speed sensor, you just remove the sensor retaining bolt and prise the sensor from the transmission using a small flat blade screwdriver..with attention to the following points-Ensure that a new o ring is installed with the sensor and that it is coated with clean transmission fluid.Tighten the retaining bolt to 11Nm and check the trans fluid level afterwards...
Does your speedo still work? Because according to the manual,if you get error code 24 and the speedo still works, then its likely to be a problem with the ECU or memcal, and not with the speed sensor itself.

Yes Speedo is still working, but when i take off there is a bit of a delay between 0-20ks. So basically I will probably be up for a new ecu or memcal?

Yeah, according to the workshop manual if the speedo is still working, and you have code 24 set, then its either the ECU or memcal thats faulty.Id still check the speed sensor resistance first to see if its still within specs.Id also go over all the wiring and the connectors, especially check the main engine wiring harness that goes around the drivers side of the engine bay, and also check the wiring connectors that go to the ECU.Id unplug and reconnect the main wiring connectors to make sure theres a good tight clean connection between them all..
Thanks Brett, Will do it tomorrow, will go out to the Wreckers and take out a ecu from a VR, as I doubt it's a very uncommon thing to go wrong. Have been told my code 68 is also caused by my memcal, so maybe it is.

Error code 68 is auto trans slipping. Its not a code you want to see showing up.Hope it is just a problem with the ECU then..It seems like your getting error codes related to the auto trans,(speed sensor).Id also closely check the wiring and connector that goes to the auto trans as well.
Have replaced the Valve body gasket, put the check balls that were stuck in the right place and also replaced the Accumulator pistons, it went for a bit, but had the gears holding, put more fluid in, gears went back to changing normally, but got the hard change.

I remember hearing greenfoam say that code 68 was turned off in the memcal as standard, because of how often the transmission would slip.. or did he say that it was there, and would register, but just didnt trigger a CEL? Cant remember anymore.
I think my point was that your memcal may not be standard if a code 68 triggers the CEL.
There was quite a few different VR memcal versions used through the life of the VR and theyre all different to eachother one way or another, so maybe some have code 68 enabled and some dont.Im pretty sure the degree of trans slip, before an error code is logged,(the threshold), can be adjusted in the tune..
If you are having this delay, then I'd say the speed sensor is definitely faulty and not working below 20KPH...plus I'd imagine if the ECU gets told that suddenly the car is doing >20KPH without the normal speedup then it will throw a fit. Would also be a lot cheaper.
Edit...this will also affect trans operation.

Guess I'll just continue with the flat blade screw drivers to remove it. Wish there was an easier way.

can anyone tell me i have a 93 vr executive which i took the instrument panel out to change the globes but on putting it back together i have all gauges except speedo and odometer what could cause this
