hi all i have a vr v8 ute i just put a second hand vs v8 engine in it i bought the car off a mate who had a fair bit of trouble with it i put new engine in and had mate reprogram memcal for me to suit crow cam i can get it to run by setting the timing with timing light not in diagnostic mode but when starting its very tight . when i set timing in the diagnostic mode at 10 degrees its starts then pops and stalls i have checked earths, plugs,leads, has new fuel pump its not showing any error codes either the only other prob is charge light is on i cant figure out what the hell the problem is its doing my head in big time it will run in diagnostic mode when timing set at 10 degrees but as soon as pull 5&6 bridge pin out it pops backfires and stalls does any one have any theories or have had this prob before pls help going crazy :x
It sounds like the distributor needs to be removed and replaced again in the proper spot with no 1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke... TDC no 1 is sometimes marked with a "notch" on the body of some dizzys.You just make sure that the dizzy rotor is pointing to this notch ,or towards the no 1 sparkplug lead terminal on the dizzy cap when the engine is at TDC on no 1 cylinder on the compression stroke..
