Default Lowering and rims - Vs

Hey guys just planning a budget and general planning to drop my vs and whack some rims on, wondering about a few things

    - ON 18's what the lowests it can go?

    - legally whats the lowest it can go?

    - is performance affected by the lower?

    - what difference would springs make?

    thanks

    1. Pretty much as low as you want.

    2. Not very low at all

    3. The lower you go the more uncomfortable the ride

    4. Just springs, ride height and not much else

If it isnt tuckin, it must be suckin

    1. Just depends on springs you use (low, superlow, ultralow)
    2. I think it is 100mm clearance from lowest point of car
    3. No performance isn't effect, handling becomes better however the ride is harsher and with 18s u feel every bump on super and ultra lows.
    4. Depending on brand different spring rates effect stiffness of the ride (ie pedders are firmer then kingsprings)

dunno about how low, usually just whatever the lowest they sell.

legally you have to have 100mm ground clearance and retain 2/3rds of the suspension travel without modifying the bump stops.

yes it effects performance, you wouldnt go any lower than superlows if you want handling. when you go lower, you get a subterrainian roll centre which actually gives you more body roll the lower you go. not only that, when you lower a vs you will have issues with the toe changing alot when the suspension compresses.

commodore cup guys get around this by mounting their steering racks higher than standard. this retains their suspension geometery somewhat. also, another thing to look at is the angle of your lower control arms in the front suspension. once they start pointing up (when looking from the inside pivot point to the wheel) when the suspension is at rest, handling is going to be compromised by ride height that is set too low.

you will hear alot of people saying that they are on ultralows and it handles awesome, but thats hardly the case. they will have springs rates that are too high, causing the tyres to grip less. especially over bumps.

springs basically set the ride height and the basic suspension stiffness. shocks control how that suspension stiffness is controlled. on the street, to get awesome handling you need to run softer springs and shocks than you would on the track. the softness helps keep the wheels on the ground, not skip across the road as they would if it was too stiff.

Heres mine on 18 inch rims, ultra low springs (live axle) is about around 5cm higher than this.

This is kings 'lows' with about 2.5 coils cut off, yes its not the best idea, but it looks good.

"100mm ground clearance" has a lot... well almost everything to do with your exhaust. the stock system hangs down a fair bit... whereas if you go get a custom one made up they can get it nice and close to the body. Since my exhaust got re-made it does not scrape over ANYTHING, that's with lovells SL in the rear.

This is my VS lowered on 18". It's pretty much as low as you can physically go for static drop, as it's only about 1" off the bump stops!!!!

With regards to the ride, I often hit my head on the roof when I hit dips in the road as I get launched upwards as the ride is so hard, but you learn to cope with this after a while LOL

Here's my old vs. On 18x8s with Dobi super lows, with shortened rear shocks. (it was an acclaim so beam axle).

It handled nicely IMO and very rarely scrapped.

Can't believe you guys ride so high!!! Is there a legal limit on how low you can go or something then? The top of my rims are inside the rear arches, which have been rolled flat and flared too to make the wheels fit! LOL Y'all need more lows!!

This is how low mine is. That's a cigarette packet under the midsection of my exhaust!!!
