    Default VR Commodore Gearbox Issues

    Hey guys,

just wondering if anyone knows about issues concerning VR Commodore gearbox issues where it won't select 1st or 4th unless the accelerator is not being pressed.

Also I have an issue where in idle my car will run all 6 cylinders, but when I put it in gear cylinders 4 and 5 both cut out. Does anyone know why this might be?

Id check the plugs and leads,if they are old ,replace them,it could also be one of the three ignition coils breaking down under load.Sometimes these coils will let the car idle ok,but as soon as a load is put on the engine, they start to break down which causes the misfiring. If you can get hold of a known working coil, you can swap it over, one at a time, with each of your three coils to see which one is playing up.Its best to replace all three coils at the same time is one is buggered. You can also test these coils with a multimeter, but its not very accurate,Ive seen these coils show up ok on a multimeter, but still cause misfiring,so the multimeter is not a guarantee that the coil is good.I now keep a spare new coil just for testing purposes. Also try to only use genuine holden coils or a good aftermarket brand coil like MSD..

I'd say the transmission problem is being caused by your ignition problem....unscrew plugs 4 and 5 and inspect them...also check the leads to them.

the leads have good resistence and plugs are stilll like new, if it was the plugs or leads it would do this all the time to my belief
