    Default VS Memcals

    Hi Guys

I am slowly but surely building up the mods on my VS (memcal this week, plenum spacer next week, pacemakers & CAI the week after)

Just wondering if the Delco Stage 4 Memcals are any good?

    Looking at something like this:
Holden Commodore VS AUTO V6 STAGE 4 performance MEMCAL | eBay

Has anyone had any trouble with them? (This is the first time I have ever touched an ECU, i'm an old school carbie enthusiast :P )

    Thanks

Hit up mace. You never know you could get lucky and get a price break if you bought all the goods from them.

+1 his 5L tune is pretty well the best but his link to ebay is for a v6.

Personally theres not much you can milk out of a v6 tune wise, i use to do my own for my vr v6 and even with the spark advance thrown right up you could bearly tell. At best you might get a tune which may save a $1 a week on your fuel. The factory tunes for these sixer's are pretty much maxed, if it was a 5L you could milk a good few rwkw's. The only time you want a v6 tune is if you were stroking or boosting the thing, so spend your money on a better airfilter/oil.

Well it seems modestly priced @ $67. Like it says dont expect anything. 15Kw would be max at best for the V6, which is about a 10% gain. Pretty small and hard to notice in real life.

the mods will help you get a bit more spark and pull a bit harder with 98ron, do ya CAI as well, even chuck a 81c thermo in will help with spark, get the thermo fan cutins changed for it, remap the auto FM tables and add some pressure to the shifts make the tranny last longer and shift better.

Seeing how your probably a p-plater have you thought about a nice cam as a real mod, you won't have the trouble with police and boost and you'll see a real notice in power. Get a cam that comes with a tune/memcal, if your not on your p's bud just drop a 5L in that slut unless your got money to piss away.

It never ceases to amaze me how quick people are to rubbish a 6 cylinder.Ive owned a lot of both 6's and 8's over the years, and both engines can perform fairly well I reckon.I can remember a hemi 6 being faster over the quarter than the toranas and falcons,it could pull high 13's straight off the showroom floor... Ive got a mate whos got a VSV6,hes fitted a wade cam ,it didnt cost nowhere near $2000 either, only a few hundred, and it goes excellent.Ive been in a lot of V8 commodores that dont go nowhere as good as it,especially off the line..I did the memcal tune for it.It got extractors and exhaust as well, thats it,other than the cam and lifters its pretty much standard.Oh,it might have roller rockers too I think. Its certainly wiped the smile off quite a few traffic light heros driving V8's.

No i'm not on my P's (haven't been for a long while)

The plan is to run this engine until it gives out (has 310,000 on it already) but is still going very strong.

Once the ecotec dies I will be dropping an LS1 or 304 in

unless u absolutely torture it with no oil or overheat it, i very much doubt under normal instances that it will just give out. so you might be waiting a while for an "excuse"

have to agree, I have had an ecotec with 400,000 on it and still ran well enough, even got good fuel economy. It helps if they are well serviced, mind you if you add up all the parts that get replaced due to wear and tear its a minor rebuild anyway over the years :P
