Are cylinder heads any different from model to model across all the ecotecs? (Series I VS - VZ)
I'm 99% certain theyre not ive worked on heaps of them never saw a difference except for l67 heads of coarse

Need to be from vs-vy as vz is alloytec.
Essentially, yes they're the same and perfectly interchangable. There is a very minor difference in the later ecotec heads (I think around vy) around the casting where the injector would be drilled if it were to be converted to an L67 head, but if they're going on an ecotec then yes vs-vy will be fine
I'd go with the reco heads if the price is right, otherwise yes yours will need a minor shave to 'tru' the mating face. Assuming they're not too warped, 0.005" would probably be enough
awesome... lastly, any idea what machining my heads would cost, and what i should pay for a set of reco'd heads?
ok, so taking into consideration, my current heads are 240,000+ km old... my options are.
1. pull heads, shave and re-install old heads. ($99 plus gasket set)
or
2. Buy reco'd heads and install. ($$$$ + gasket set)
it just depends on what is replaced in reco's heads. (Im finding out) and how much more i should pay for them????
Also take into account your current heads at 240k would also benefit from a valve grind at approx another $90 and the guides are probably not quite the tolerance they once were, new stem seals etc. etc.
Really depends on exactly what has been done to 'reco' the heads as to what they're worth.
Basically if u wanna do it cheap, Have your current heads skimmed for re-install, buy new gaskets and all good. Will pro last you till 300k then. Thats pretty good, especially if u think you will have sold it by then.
Other option is to buy later model heads with less km's(to save you valve grinding and valve seating ur old heads) an having them skimmed. This could se you go to like 360k without hassels(engine wise).
Pesonally i would just get urs skimmed to see them flat for re-install and buy some new gaskets. Chances are your ganna sell it by 300k and it gonna matter squat what you did back at 240k as far as re-sale value
