Hey guys, just wondering if any of you would know if a single coil pack can cause a V6 to go into LHM? Any feedback would be awesome
Ive never seen a buggered coil cause an error code to log, which is whats happening for it to be going into limp home mode.Try checking your error codes to see what error codes show up..Heres a link to a post that shows you how to do this simple test.If you are unsure about doing this test, then scroll down near the bottom of the page in the link, theres some good pics of this test being done..

Pretty sure it would not on it's own unless you drove it till it overheated or some other drama. Do a codes check to find out the fault code: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

thanks guys, do either of you know if a VR will also take OBD2 as well to do computer checks?
Also is this what Code 41 would be in regards to the coil pack?
Code 41 is EST (Electronic Spark Timing) circuit fault.Id say its a faulty DFI module or CAS( Crank Angle Sensor).A faulty DFI module could also be why one coil is not firing properly.Id be first up checking all the wiring around the engine bay ,the DFI module connectors and the ECU wiring as well, check all the connectors etc..If you dont find any obvious problems with the wiring, then try another DFI module to see if that fixes it..The workshop manual also says that a faulty ECU can cause code 41 to set ,thats if the problem isnt caused by a faulty DFI module ..
well i swapped the coil around with another one and the same coil was giving of no spark which is why i was thinking that the coil might cause LHM to activate
If youve moved the coil and it still doesnt fire, then Id just replace that faulty coil and then go from there..
thanx for the help anyways brett, will keep you posted on this when i get it changed as to the LHM staying or going to normal again
No worries,good luck with it.Cheers..
Hey Guys, after replacing the single coil, this also blew my tranny fuse, the limp home mode was finally deactivated after taking out the ECU fuse and leaving the car in the on position for about 2 minutes, after replacing the fuse i started the car and rev'd it at 3grand to make sure that the engine light didn't come back on and since then I have not had a problem at all
