hey there got a VS series 2 acclaim here and my mother was at the petrol station and went to start my car and it got stuck on reds
now me being the bush mechanic i am i ended up plugging the mofo , ( took the plastic shrouding of then snapped the ignition switch clean of the barrel then got the a/c switch and put that into the hole and got her started after a new battery was needed due to it dieing down in the 20 mins it took for me to get there
now what im wanting to know is what parts do i need to replace obviously the barrel and ignition switch but is there anything to worry about with the BEM etc ?
What???? lol
you shouldnt have to do anything with the BEM as you can keep your old key when you buy a new ignition barrel.
when i replace my barrel in my old vs i pulled both new and old barrels apart and swapped the old tumblers into the new ignition barrel so the key would still work the door and boot locks.
the a/c switch trick
rumor has it holden workers made the back of the a/c switch to plug straight into the back of the ignition switch so when they have had a hard day at the pub instead of catch a taxi home they can borrow a VN with no damage done for the owner
lol never heard of that before, dont old vn's still have the steering wheel lock? unless there is some trick for that too
There is a trick for the steering lock, but the lock wont work again once it's done
Surely the VN has a steering lock, they had em back in the 70's, possibly earlier.
Yeah, try snapping that without doing any damage to the vehicle..Im no car thief, but Ive hepled people before who race speedway with these cars, theyve had a couple of old "spares" cars with no keys, and when we tried to snap the steering lock using brute force,we ripped the whole steering column off its mounts. Its got me ###### how they do actually steal them without the keys.
true, it can go wrong
the barrel turns into all potions but it stays on reds, does that mean i wont have to struggle to remove the old barrel out due to i can turn the key to on etc but it just slips in there no tension it feels as if
but im pretty sure when i move it to the "off" position it wont lock the steering lock
Yeah, the workshop manual says you need to have it in the on position, then use a small pin or small drill bit to stick into the hole in the lock body to press and release the locking catch, which in turn, releases the barrel. Then you just pull the barrel from out of the steering column.
