Are vr/s 6cyl and 8cyl all the same racks?
Or are their differant ones, is the calais ones differant, did a search and found something about variable steering?

I'm pretty sure V6 and V8 racks are the same and up-specs (Calais, Statesman and Caprice) have Variable steering which you can tell by the switch on the rack. Varible steering racks can be fitted but from what i understand is there is a lot of wiring involved.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
just done a rack change on my VS v6 and its exactly the same as the V8, i have both so it is true for the VS at least. But saying that the ecotech is just an slight upgrade from the buick and the 5l are no different between those models so im 90% sure they'd be the same. get a rack from the wreckers set me back $100.

thanks guys, just picked up one from my mate for ten bucks, i dont want to uprgrade or anything just need to replace and it came off a v6, i just wanted to make sure it would fit and there aren't differant ones, they start from like 400 bucks exchange. funny when you can buy a whole car for 100 bucks
$400 for a rack?! That's a wrought. Wreckers sell them locally here for $90-$110 with 6 months warranty. I just did mine and got a rack + pump combo for $110. I am sure somebody is willing to arrange shipping of stuff for WAY under that price if you ever need anything again.
Cheers for that mate, yeah it ended up being the pump, bought one for $70 and it leaked everywhere, called a wreckers and bought one for $75 and thats held up alright so far, ended up getting a rack off a mate for ten bucks so was pretty happy
