I have a '93 VR, is the kickdown cable or electric?
It has the 4L60E so it's all done electric. 4L60 used the kickdown cable. E stands for Electronic.

>_< hoping it wasn't electric.
I'm having problems with it changing from 2nd to 3rd.
It could be the 2-3 shift solenoid playing up.Id check for any error codes to see if theres any logged, these shift solenoids will set a certain error code when they play up or fail..
Heres a link to a post that shows you how to do this simple error code test..The error code for the 2-3 shift solenoid circuit in in the auto trans is error code 81

well my vs v6 is a cable with the 7hdd and 6hdd gearbox, im pretty sure it has an electronic gear change aspect to it aswell.
Stuntmanmike: At least he didn't advise for me to check the head light fluid and bring it in to tune the radio...
Cable kickdown
Just a little more tweaking, it'll run smoothly again!
I ran an error test, lots of flashing in threes, I gave up counting once I got to 30 flashes. Good thing or bad?
If its got a kickdown cable, then the trans is probably out of an earlier model. The VR workshop manual doesnt mention anything at all about a kickdown cable so the VR obviously doesnt use one, unlike the VN and VP manuals which mention the cable and show how to adjust it etc..
is there a possibility that the car is in limp home mode? if so then this will explain it also
Does your car take off in 1st? if you have to take off in 2nd or put it in drive and it only takes off in 3rd then will be in Limp Home Mode
Then most likely it will be your solenoid that will need to be changed
That's what we're starting to think.
Where abouts do I find it?
inside the pan, i found this pick so that you can have a look

Ahh sweet, cheers dude![]()
No worries, i hope it all helps you out![]()
As I said above,if theres a problem with the trans,it should set an error code to help point you to what is wrong..do an error code check..
I did run an error check, I mentioned that above too...
Ah,I missed that.If theres nothing wrong,It should just show a continuous code 12 which is one long flash(tens),followed by two short flashes(units). If thers an error code logged,It will show a code 12 to show its the start of the error codes, then after its flashed up any logged error codes,it will flash up code 12 again to show the end of the test..
if it has a kickdown cable its had a vn-vp box fitted will be heaps of error codes LOL but none will effect the vn-vp trans operation
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
If it has got a kickdown cable, then its not gonna be a shift solenoid problem as these ones arent electronically shifted..
Has the car got a kickdown cable or not?
Well, theres two things, one is what delco posted, the transmission error codes ,if any are set, which there would have to be unless its had a VN/VP ECU installed in it,or if the memcal has been modified, will not effect the transmission operation. And two,the shifting problem will not be shift soleniods as the non electronic versions, which were fitted to the VN/VP and use the kickdown cable, dont have these shift solenids like the electronic versions..Theyd have bands that can be adjusted... not too sure what the problem would be.Maybe it just needs a band adjustment..Has it been serviced at all ?New filter and fluid..You could try that.
How would I know if the bands need adjusting?
I don't even know how to do that either.
