As the title suggests, I had a look at my cruise control/indicator stalk on my VR and noticed that 3 wires have been cut
Is there any reason why someone would cut the cruise control wires?
I am trying to think why the owner before would have cut them..
2nd hand stalk?
I would say it was faulty.. so they cut the wires.
Does your vr have the rest of the cruise setup?
These cruise control wires are well known for breaking up inside the blinker stalk. You can just solder them back together again and cover the solder joins with heatshrink tubing,or you can just replace the whole blinker stalk...checking these wires for breaks is usually one of the first things to do if the cruise control stops working..Theres plenty of posts on here about this problem..
As far as i know it has the Cruise control setup.. I checked the wires after the fuses and noticed that the wires had been cut and not broken. So I am trying to figure out why before i try re-wiring it or buying a new one for $43 on eBay

Turns out the previous owner had just bought a second hand stalk and cut the wires because the car doesn't actually have cruise control.
Solved.
I did the same thing when i had to replace my VS RHS indicator stalk, i got one from wreckers out of a VR
that had no cruise control so i just cut em!
No problems just no cruise control etc but i don't miss it!
I was going to say, a VR exec with cruise would be unlikely!
Power is measured in DECIBEL
I just repaired the cruise control in my oldies VR.Heres a pic I took of the broken wires. Its heaps common for these wires to break here(see pic),and as you can see, 3 of the 4 wires were broken.I just soldered them back together and then heatshrinked and taped them, obviously its a temporary repair and will probably break again at some point, but it does the job for now until they can get a new blinker stalk..
With this type of repair - it also applies to the door wiring harnesses where they pass out of the 'A' and 'B' pillars - I splice in a new section of wire.
If you just cut and shut, the wires will be shorter by the length of the join and the stiff soldered section will be across the point where the wires have to bend.
It is a bit more (2X) work to do it that way of course.
